In its text form this digital publication in English offers the overview presented above, as a compilation of the extensive publication of all details in German (cf. Maurer et al., 2011).

Below, some indications are given with regard to how to view and comprehend the film documents and their analysis.

The film archive includes:

• All pictures and picture processes (videos) analyzed, the videos including subtitles and thematic sequences
• Systematic catalogues of attributes for the description of pictures and picture processes
• Detailed description of pictures and picture processes (results of categorisation)
• Additional comments
• Tables presenting (1) children as authors, (2) related pictures and picture processes, and (3) age of production
• Thematic series of pictures and picture processes

The graphical user interface is structured as follows (in the layout of the archive, see the related menu items on the left):

• Series of pictures and picture processes
• Display of the archive structure (catalogues of attributes, table of authors, table of pictures, picture processes and age of production)
• Search layout
• Statistical aspects for an actual selection of pictures and picture processes

Describing early pictures and graphic processes with words is a complex undertaking. In any event, such an investigation demands careful clarification of the verbal aspects and parallel publication of all visual documents, including all descriptions of graphic attributes and additional picture commentaries. Only such an exhaustive approach facilitates identification of phenomenological findings and conclusions, according to scientific needs and standards, and allows for a constitution of an empirical reference.

The form of publication at hand represents an attempt to comply with such possibility of complete identification for a critical reception and freely accessible documents for the formation of references.
